If your cell phone breaks or gets stolen and you don’t want to spend a fortune on a new phone, purchasing a refurbished cell phone is always an option. Refurbished phones are pre-owned, so they are significantly less expensive than new phones. However, you also run the risk of spending money on a phone that isn’t high quality, or that will break shortly after your purchase. Here is a list of pros and cons to buying a refurbished cell phone to help you in your decision.

Pros

The biggest advantage for most people in buying a refurbished phone is the savings. Purchasing a cell phone when you are not renewing a contract can cost you hundreds of dollars. Refurbished cell phones can be 50 percent or more off the retail price of the phone.

Refurbished cell phones are also environmentally friendly. Rather than sending these used cell phones to landfills, they are being recycled and thus avoiding contributing to environmental damage.

Finally, if you purchase your refurbished cell phone from a reputable company, you should be able to get a 90-day warranty period. So, if your phone malfunctions within three months of your purchase, you’ll be able to return it for a new one.

Cons

However, sometimes the cons of buying a refurbished cell phone can outweigh the pros. These phones have already been used or returned because of malfunctions. They could have physical defects, such as scratches or nicks, or internal defects, like the speakerphone or camera not working. Additionally, the 90-day warranty protection is significantly less than the one-year warranty protection you receive when purchasing a new phone.

When to Upgrade Small Business Technology

Upgrading technology within a small business is expensive. There are times, though, that it can help your business to grow and expand to a far more effective level than you may have thought. Knowing when to make the upgrade happen can be difficult even in larger businesses.

When to Upgrade

Every business’s particular needs will be different when it comes to upgrading business technology. Take into consideration the benefit of adding any new technology to your business and the cost implications of doing so. These tips can help.

  • Small businesses often need significant working capital. If the investment in technology will cut into workable capital necessary for other aspects of managing your business, avoid it.
  • Consider the cost of upgrading now to the cost of waiting. Will the upgrade cost more the longer you wait? If you know you need it to happen at some point, determine when it is most cost effective to make the move.
  • When it comes to technology, realize it often betters your business bottom line. Therefore, know when to move towards buying it so that you can boost your bottom line. Improving customer communication, improving employee productivity or making your production process easier saves you money. This makes an upgrade well worth investing in.

As a small business, you may qualify for loans to help you with your technological upgrade. Find out what your options are, and what the cost effects of making the upgrade are. If you find that investing in new technology can improve the way you do business, or boost your bottom line, do so sooner rather than later, especially when it offers key benefits to functionality.

Do you need to buy new technology? Whether it is for the home or your business, fun or for work, realize that you have plenty of options on the market. Technology grows and changes very rapidly and that growth can mean plenty of opportunities for you to use technology to enhance your life. The question is, how can you be confident in your purchases?

Tips for Buying Success

Technology can empower you. Take the time to consider when you should buy and what you should look for in any product you do plan to invest in. Not all companies offer the same benefits to you.

  • Read reviews of the product before you invest in it. Both professionally written reviews and those from users of the product can give you an idea of what to expect from it. This is a good way to see how well it can work in your life.
  • Find out if there is a guarantee on the product. Most trustworthy companies will offer a limited guarantee. This will help to protect you in the event that the product does not work as promised.
  • Learn about the manufacturer and the quality of the product. The more you know about the product’s manufacturer, the more you can feel confident in purchasing from them. The key to remember, though, is that even new companies deserve an opportunity to prove themselves to you.

Consumers can buy technology, as they want to. The problem is it can be expensive. The good news is, you can take advantage of promos like direct tv deals for example, to save a significant amount of money. When you know what to look for and how to buy it, you can make better buying decisions. Investing in technology is a good thing most often.

When to Buy Refurbished Products

Have you thought about investing in refurbished products and are not sure about the investment process. It is not always a good idea to invest in these products. In some cases, doing so could help you to save money only when you do not have to replace the item too soon.

Know When to Buy

There are some situations when buying refurbished products can actually benefit you. Often, you will find everything from electronics to vehicles available in this form. Should you buy? The following tips can help you to make that decision.

  • Find out if there is a customer return available. Most of the time, you can expect a 30-day guarantee, but be sure this is in place before you buy. This way, you have some level of protection if you buy a product that does not work.
  • Monitor the item for any damage. For example, the cosmetic damage to the product or packaging may be a reason not to buy. Determine the extent of any damage before you invest in the product to ensure you are getting the quality you are paying for in it.
  • If you are purchasing refurbished products, find out if the warranty is in place. You may find that there are situations where these products have a new warranty if the manufacturer did the refurbishment itself.

The more you know about the history of the product, the more confident you can be that you are making the right buying decision. Most people can benefit because of the low cost of these products. Nevertheless, it is up to you to learn why the price is lower before you buy.

How to Read Reviews Before You Buy

Reviews are a fantastic way for you to learn about something as well as how well it works before you actually buy it. However, before you count on the information in any such review, you need to know who is writing it, why they are doing so and what they are actually telling you. It may sound simple, but the fact is, it is not always as easy.

What to Look for in Reviews

Take the time to investigate a review before you use the information in it to help you in your buying decision. Being an informed buyer is important, but it is up to you to make sure you have all of the facts before you buy.

  • Who is writing the review? If it is professionally written, there are guidelines providers must follow to ensure you know if a product or service being reviewed is something the writer is being paid for.
  • What is their working or using experience with the item? Have them used the item in question? Are they just using information from another review? Learn what actual hands on experience the reviewer actually has. This tells you how valid the review actually is.
  • Determine why they are writing the review. Sometimes, a person will make claims that are not true or accurate. He or she may spend a lot of time talking about the “poor customer service” but fail to give examples. Anger fueled reviews are not helpful.

You need reviews. They can help you to make good buying decisions. However, know what you are ready before you use the information contained in these reviews to affect your investment.

How to Play the Popular Angry Birds App

Angry Birds is one of the most important activities in modern society, up there with the ongoing quests to eliminate cancer and feed the hungry children of the world. While not everyone has the chops to work their Android tablet well enough to eliminate the pigs and save the world from their evil, piggish tyranny, and many people have chosen to answer the sacred call. Indeed, they’ve answered the bird’s call, and flipped the bird more times than a New York cabbie.

Let’s get into how to play the game properly on your Android tablet. First off, you have to kill those pigs, and devote your every finger motion to doing so. If those pigs survive, something terrible could happen. You’ll lose points, and you just might lose the love and respect of your family and closest friends. Not hitting enough pigs is rumored to have started the Great Recession back in 2007. Remember that you’re throwing birds, so you have to aim carefully. Place your finger on the slingshot, and pull back. The further back you pull, the farther you’ll launch the bird.

Aim carefully, because your goal is to get three stars or better. Remember also that there are several kinds of birds that can be tapped for their special powers. Rather like Captain Planet, with their powers combined, you can smash glass, blow up stone and even recall your bird like a boomerang- perhaps a birdarang. As you move through the five groups of levels, you’re going to have to kick up your speed of play and your creativity, because your obstacles are going to get hard and complicated.

The Evolution of Android Phones

Progress defines the world, with ideas flung toward evolution and discoveries made with ease. The intention is to rewrite conceptions and such an intention succeeds: never more so than within the field of technology.

And that’s proven in the world of Android phones.

The Android — a computing solution stack — is a familiar name within the smartphone community. Its open source sensibilities ensure that it provides precision to each task. And that precision (which is now chased by consumers, with Visa prepaid debit cards tossed happily toward clerks and store counters) has shifted throughout the years.

Android technology arrived first in 2003. Its founders — Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White — sought to create a program that was self-aware, allowing user preferences to be understood. It was a free source, which was daring for the time.

Intrigue surrounded the idea and in 2005 Google absorbed the company, wishing to use it for the launch of their own mobile device. It was through their involvement that the notion of a Linux kernel was first utilized, creating full adaptability. Their initial offering, the Eclair, was launched in 2009.

This device provided basic functionality and HTML5 scripting. Like all smartphones, it included a camera that you could use to show off pictures of your Alaskan Malamute. Android was soon followed by the Froyo (which provided Adobe support and tethering) and the Gingerbread (which boasted a slick interface). And 2011 saw the Honeycomb, a tablet accelerator. Though the Honeycomb was created as a closed source, its abilities were vastly superior to its predecessors.

Gift for Dad: Universal Remote Control

One of the most rewarding things to do is to buy surprise gifts for people you love. It’s always a treat to buy Sis something frilly; Mom is a pleasure to buy for, as she is always thrilled by the thought behind the gift. Even brothers are easy, nowadays, because every guy loves video games. Buy them the latest in cool gaming and Voila! Instant happiness!

Then there’s Dad. Hmmm….this one’s tricky.

Well, most dads might like a new car, or a trip to the Bahamas, but that kind of big surprise might have to wait. Still, your money is safely on your prepaid card, for online or real world spending, which gives you flexibility to find the perfect gift for Pop.

And believe it or not, that gift is just waiting to be discovered! The perfect gift is… a universal remote control.

Huh?

Think about it.

After a hard day at work, Dad can come home, sit in his favorite chair and relax watching his favorite DVD, with just the push of a button.

So what’s new about that? A universal remote control will work on any TV or home theater anywhere. He can go from watching a movie in the living room to watching the news in his bedroom, all on the same remote, because the URC works on every TV it comes in contact with.

That’s correct — every TV. Whether he’s at the doctor’s office or sitting in that hotel room in the Bahamas, Dad is now in complete control of the entertainment. Now, that’s power.

So, get that prepaid card ready because the perfect gift has been found!

3 Reasons Why Professionals Should Choose Android

Take a look in your nearest electronics store and you will probably become overwhelmed by the sheer number of cell phones available. Never is that more true than for professionals trying to decide which of the various options will offer them the greatest number of benefits. Today, more and more people are turning to a Motorola Android to meet their needs. There are three reasons why professionals should choose Android.

1.       No Need for Additional Software
Some other smartphones require the user to install multiple programs onto their computer in order to sync the phone. Android is much simpler. It allows the user to simply drop and drag files and data from phone to computer.

2.       No Network Lock

Many iPhones are sold with a sort of lock that prevents the user from moving the phone between service providers. The Motorola Android carries no such restrictions.

3.       Price

Staying on top of technology is difficult, especially because it means you have to dish out the cash. Many other brands release updated versions every six months, often at outrageous prices. Not so with Android’s operating system. In fact, there is a variety of android phones available at many different price points, making it a more affordable option for many users.

While selecting a phone for professional use is often based on a wide number of factors, many users find that some phones are simply easier to use. The Motorola Android is simple and intuitive to use and ideal for those looking for a smart phone for business purposes.

Increasing the Memory on Your Cell Phone

Image via Wikipedia

Okay, we’ve all been there. You’re in the middle of a meeting and there goes…your cell phone…memory.  Ouch! Just when you wanted to show off some flashy images, everything slows to a standstill. We’ve gotten so dependent on the brilliance of these devices; we can get pretty stuck when they give out on us. How can we avoid this type of excruciating cell phone dysfunction?

Whether you’ve got prepaid plans or a long term contract, cell phones have a limited memory capacity.  The way to increase your cell phone memory is to free up space that’s being taken up with old information.  Clearly you’ll never be able to play all those incredible videos unless you amp up that cell phone memory. Here are few tricks that should help:

Remove extraneous information.  Old text messages can take up a lot of space.  To weed them out, go to the menu from the home screen and press delete.  Also delete media files you are not using.

Get a memory card to add to your internal storage system.  Smart phones now have incredible capacity for playing all kinds of power-using media, thus it is hard to keep up with it all without adding additional memory.  Memory cards can be purchased to add gigabytes (4 to 8 gigabytes if you want to play a lot of video or music files, which take a lot of juice) to your phone so you can play all the media you want without running slow. These cards are available online or at many drug or electronics stores.

Amp up you memory now—and avoid another excruciating cell phone dysfunction!
